By Javier Erik Olvera, Rocky Mountain News Two forums will he held this week to ease tensions after recent fatal shootings by police - the deaths of Paul Childs, 15, in Denver, and Denise Washington, 30, in Aurora. Childs was developmentally disabled and Washington was mentally ill.
"There are people in our community who say the shootings made them afraid," said the Rev. Patrick Demmer of the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance, which is organizing Tuesday's forum. Organizers said that a cross-section of civic leaders, community activists, police and political figures have been invited to both events. Activist Alvertis Simmons is organizing Thursday's forum. All information - specifically solutions - from Thursday's event will be compiled and sent to local, state and federal leaders, he said.
